بحر أرال يقع بين كازخستان شمالا وأوزبكستان جنوبا . في عام 1918 قرر الإتحاد السوفيتي تحويل اثنين من الأنهار التي تغذي بحر الارال إلى مشاريع زراعية لزراعة الأرز والحبوب والقطن ، مما تسبب لاحقاً بجفاف هذا البحر الكبير الذي كان فيما مضى معبراً لمئات سفن الشحن. الآن تحول إلى صحراء فيها بقايا السفن القديمة وتعبر فيها الجمال.
